Back to Tok, AK

We left North Pole on Saturday (August 2nd) and drove about 90 miles south to Delta Junction. The scenery still remains awesome all along the way. Here is a picture of Mt. Hayes and Hess Mountain in the Alaska Range west of Delta Junction.

We also are still seeing wildlife. This young Bull Moose was grazing along side the highway.

The terminating point of the Alaska Highway is in Delta Junction - Mile Post 1422. When we came into Alaska on June 17th and got to Tok, we didn’t drive the last 100 miles of the Alaska Highway. Instead we took the Tok Cutoff to Glennallen, and then went on to Valdez. Now we have made the full circle around Alaska and arrived at the end of the Alaska Highway from the opposite direction.

Here’s a picture of the “Mile 1422” Monument at the Visitor Center in Delta Junction.

At the Delta Junction Visitor Center they had a “life-size” replica of the Alaskan mosquito. They definitely have some monsters up here!

Also, we passed this place and thought the sign was funny. Seems like folks have been “heeding the sign”!

Yesterday (Sunday) we went to church in Delta Junction and had an afternoon of rest. Then today we drove that last 100 miles of the Alaska Highway from Delta Junction back to Tok. We are here for only one night and then we’re headed further south. I don’t know if I have posted this on the ‘blog’ or not (guess I could look back and see), but we are headed to Haines, AK. Next Monday (August 11th) we are putting the motorhome and Jeep (and us too) on one of the ferries of the Alaska Marine Highway and taking the ferry down through the Inside Passage to Bellingham, WA - about a 4-day trip. We’re really looking forward to that.
